Bobby "Bob" Gwynne McLeod of Sandston, Virginia, formerly of Vinton, Virginia, passed away August 10th, 2013 after a long, courageous struggle to recover from the effects of a spinal cord injury. He would have been 80 years old on August 21st. Bob was a veteran of four years serving in the Air Force. He served forty years in the airline industry, working for Piedmont and USAir, retiring in 1993. Bobby "Bob" Gwynne McLeod of Sandston, Virginia, formerly of Vinton, Virginia, passed away August 10th, 2013 after a long, courageous struggle to recover from the effects of a spinal cord injury. He would have been 80 years old on August 21st. Bob was a veteran of four years serving in the Air Force. He served forty years in the airline industry, working for Piedmont and USAir, retiring in 1993. Bob was a man of many talents and interests, among which were duck carving, travel, gardening and genealogy. He was a handyman extraordinaire, an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles and was a Scrabble player of intimidating skill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth McLeod, and brothers, David and Fred. Bob is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 58 years, Barbara Goggin McLeod; son, Robin (Wendy); daughter, Vicki (Richard). Also, a sister, Marian, brothers, Milton (Chris), C. E. (Jo), Roy (Sewell) and an honorary sister-in-law, Jeanette. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Sunday, August 18th, from 3-6 PM, at the Nelsen Funeral Home Reception Center, at 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue. Condolences may be offered at nelsencares.com. In lieu of food and flowers, contributions may be made to Henrico Rescue Squad, 5301 Huntsman Road, Sandston, Virginia, 23150, or to the charity of your choice. The family would like to offer special thanks to the staffs of VCU Medical Center, Sitter & Barfoot Veterans' Care Center, McGuire Veterans' Hospital Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Program and Care Alternatives Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion.
